"I hate you, Joel! I thought you were done tossing aside old friends for new ones! This time, you made the WORST new friend of ALL!"
―Gerald McReary, after Joel betrays him

Gonzales Vs. McReary is the fifth comic of the Sibling Rivalries series.

Plot[]

Joel Gonzales announces his betrayal to the McReary siblings after making a deal with the Wisconsin Warriors, and kidnaps the siblings to prove that he is not one to be messed with (albeit still appearing goofy).

Trivia[]

  • Joel's younger brother Jose was portrayed as a henchman of sorts to Joel as opposed to how for the rest of the series, he is against Joel's wrongdoings.
  • It is unknown why Maureen did not come to rescue her kids after they were captured by Joel and James, nor how they succeeded at taking each sibling out of the house when it was made clear she was home at the time.
    • As some dialogue was later rewritten, it was mentioned that knockout gas was used on each family member, and presumably on Maureen as well.
    • Furthermore, the siblings meet Jose and Joel's parents in this comic, but nobody seems to be familiar with each other. This conflicts with what was later established in Season 10 comic "Pack To The Past", where Mr and Mrs Gonzales used to babysit the infant siblings, who actually wanted them to be their new parents.
  • The kidnapping aspect of this comic was meant to be a reference to the Grand Theft Auto IV mission Crime and Punishment, where Niko and Roman Bellic are held hostage in Mikhail Faustin's basement to be questioned about the murder of Vladimir Glebov. Looking back on the series as an adult, however, GTA Nerd is aware that the comic's depiction of the "kidnapping" is pretty bizarre and bland, but at least it stayed G rated.
