Trivia/Goofs[]

  • This comic marks the first appearance of the McReary-Wilson Family Cafe, which will later become one of the main settings of the series.
  • After winning the picture, Gerry decides to hang it in the cafe. The picture proceeds to make rare appearances throughout the rest of the series.
  • It is revealed that Maureen is pregnant at the end of this comic. This plot point will be continued in the next comic "Wouldn't It Be Nice?", although this plot point was later deemed non-canon.
  • Third comic to have "football" in the comic's title. ("Frightful Football Reunions", "The Football Faker")
  • Second comic to focus heavily on both Packie and Gerry, while the other three siblings are part of the sub-plot ("The Football Faker"). The two siblings also had their own individual plots in "Field Trip Gone Wrong!".
  • Derrick and Kate are the only siblings to not speak in this comic.
  • When Packie and Gerry are in the latter's bedroom, the TV is tuned to Nickelodeon, and SpongeBob SquarePants can be seen wearing his Krusty Krab hat. This marks the second time in the series that SpongeBob appears on a TV set, the first time being in "Love is What Makes the World Go 'Round". SpongeBob has made multiple appearances before in Cletus Comics, SR's sister comic series.
